Hornet's avatar

Hornet (she/her) 🪡

In system: A fictive of Hornet from the Hollow Knight games. Helps manage our psychosis symptoms by lacking fear of our hallucinations. Currently dating Lace and part of the nested Threadbound subsystem with Eva. Also has various median facets known as Crests.

In source: Known as the Protector of Hallownest and the Daughter of Three Queens, Hornet wandered the ruins of Hallownest after her father, the Pale King, sealed the infection of the Radiance with the help of her birth mother, Queen Herrah of Deepnest. Standing watch over the Black Egg Temple where her half-sibling dwelt, sealing the Radiance inside its dreams, she took it upon herself to prevent any from disturbing it who were not strong enough to seal or defeat the Radiance in turn, eventually guiding the strongest of her half-siblings towards that very goal.

She would later be captured and taken to the kingdom of Pharloom, where she would endeavour to follow in her sibling's footsteps by freeing Pharloom from its haunted control, being both impeded and later aided along the way by Lace. Avatar credit: abhinito on AlphaCoders

⚜️ Crests

Hornet's crests function as a median subsystem, maintaining some level of individuality internally but layered on top of her baseline personality when active. This exists in parallel to the Threadbound subsystem; while in theory they exist on even footing with Eva from a structural perspective, their inability to manifest fully without being filtered through Hornet creates a distinct dynamic by comparison.

Hornet (Hunter)'s avatar

The Hunter

The closest of Hornet's facets to her "core personality". Reserved, pragmatic, and blunt. Tends to shepherd the other crests.

Hornet (Reaper)'s avatar

The Reaper

A patient and elegant facet who moves with deliberate, sweeping motions.

Hornet (Wanderer)'s avatar

The Wanderer

A gentle and inquisitive facet who amplifies Hornet's curiosity and investigative nature.

Hornet (Beast)'s avatar

The Beast

A gruff and aggressive facet. Doesn't talk much, and the others often joke about it being feral.

Hornet (Witch)'s avatar

The Witch

An facet born from bonding to the remains of a parasite. Not much is currently known about its personality.

Hornet (Architect)'s avatar

The Architect

A pragmatic and inventive facet who draws out Hornet's problem-solving skills and ingenuity.

Lace's avatar

Lace (she/her)

In system: A fictive of Lace from the Hollow Knight games. Currently dating Hornet.

In source: A construct made of Silk given sentience, created by Pharloom's god as a daughter, who grew bitter over her mother's lack of attention towards her and her sibling, becoming a rival to Hornet on the latter's ascent through Pharloom. Avatar credit: justalazybee on Tumblr

Ghost's avatar

Ghost (it/they)

In system: A fictive of the Knight from the Hollow Knight games. Nonverbal. Chose its name from Hornet's nickname for it, due to lacking a proper name in source.

In source: An empty vessel created by filling the body of one of the Pale King's children with void, and one of thousands of siblings discarded into the Abyss when the Hollow Knight was chosen from among them. After escaping the Abyss into the wilds around Hallownest at an unknown point, it returned to the kingdom just as the Hollow Knight's seal on the Radiance was beginning to break. Eva's avatar

Eva (she/her) 🪡

In system: A fictive of Eva from the Hollow Knight games. Part of the nested Threadbound subsystem with Hornet.

In source: A failed attempt by the Weavers to create an artificial higher being, with the hope of being able to contest Grand Mother Silk's power and potentially usurp her. Due to her physical frailty, Eva was considered a disgraceful failure, and the metal tank that sustained her life was buried at the bottom of Weavenest Atla, abandoned to eternity alone after the Weaver diaspora until she was eventually uncovered by Hornet. She would later request for Hornet to bind her, freeing her from her physical form and sacrificing her autonomy to allow her to experience the world through Hornet's eyes and become truly inseparable from the one she had come to deeply admire, a request which Hornet gladly granted.
